A ten-Kate day was just what I needed to feel back on top of things after three days of headache and general lethargy. I think that so much came bubbling up through my mind and my heart, and I was so short on sleep, that I just shut down a little bit. And I was so fucking cold. But a couple of days of warm and sunny and a lot of work under the bridge and no more headache has left me springy and raring to go. Napping outside with the birds was especially nice.
The B40 is nice and raked and ready to party.
We have a new cardinal in the yard- one of the Red Baron’s boys, I believe. I’m calling him The Baronet. He’s just a nipper, very smart and watchy. The Baron, his father, is a swaggering ass of a bird; he is rude, demanding, and gorgeous. The Baronet is curious, and cocks his head fetchingly to the side. I hope to be friends.
Miss Fish is not enticed by the cool rainy day, or is she enchanted to hear that we have two more on the way before we can get back to lightly roasting in the sunshine. She’s making the best of it, though, and she knows that I have drug home meat (a rarity these days) and there is something quite like a Boeuf Bourguignon roasting in the oven. No tomato sauce, bacon, or beef stock, but otherwise… everything seared, mushrooms, onions, celery, garlic, pinot noir… plus a dish of yellow tomatoes in olive oil and sea salt, a dish of fresh new red potatoes in the same, a sweet yellow pepper, three sweet potatoes, all roasting together in the slow oven in their separate dishes. The smell in the house is intoxicating. I’ve made so few kills since I started acupuncture, but sometimes, I want meat. Tonight.
LOTS of hummingbirds around- the trees are just bouncing with them. This sweet little Annas let me get right up close.

Kate did you really shoot and kill some meat? It is ’bout to be duck season here, but considering the hubster cries when the cat catches a bird I don’t think we’ll be eating any! He would like to fire the rifles he got given to him by his’ Swedish Father, but you have to know someone with property to go rabbiting here and he doesn’t mix in those circles. I am actually dying to know now if you are a deer hunter! Is that wrong? lol :-)
I shrieked with laughter at that. No, I bought a hunk of pretty beef. But still, to me, it’s a kill, and I take responsibility for the life when I buy meat at the store. I try to keep my kills few and far between. I don’t really thrive on a completely vegetarian diet, or perhaps I should say I don’t feel complete, and I get anemic. But once in a while… YUM. Especially when it’s cold.
I would hunt to eat, if I had to, but it’s hasn’t come to that yet. I wouldn’t do it for sport, though.
Yeh it is good to eat meat! I love it :D Especially a T-bone steak! That is hella tasty.
If the world was in balance, it would be fine… as it is, I try to eat as low on the food chain as I can. But sometimes, like when I have to replace a freaking pint of blood, nuts and legumes don’t work so well for me. I’ve wondered if it’s different for girls and boys, eating vegetarian. Boys don’t bleed unless they are injured.
