Thanksgiving goes on and on

Bill’s parents came in for a full week so we are still playing.  We had a whole night and a day of rain on Thanksgiving Day, which was a treat. The air smelled like heaven.

We’ve been making food, big long tables full of food. Turkey, of course, and [...]

I’m completely grimy. Covered in dust.

I’ve been cleaning the house from top to bottom, getting ready for Thanksgiving. Bill’s parents are coming in from New Orleans. They’ll be here for a week, and we can’t wait. I made Bill’s dad a beef stew tonight, because as you know, it’s always better on the second day. Tomorrow night we’ll warm it [...]

Another beautiful day.

It’s colder here today, and we are unfortunately expecting some rain over the Thanksgiving holidays. Ordinarily I wouldn’t mind, but this year is special, because Bill’s parents are coming in from New Orleans and cold and rainy is the last thing I want to treat them to. Soon Arctic Poppies will be popping up in [...]

My Congressman, Raul Grijalva, Secretary of the Interior?

Raul would be a brilliant choice for Obama, but once again, what a loss it would be for Arizona. I can’t imagine sending both Janet and Raul to DC… but of course we all have to do what’s best for the country right now. And maybe if we had someone who really understood the borderlands, [...]

Thank goodness. The Nebraska Butt Bandit has been caught.

What a relief. The man who has been leaving greasy prints of his parts on store windows in Valentine, Nebraska, has finally been apprehended. Do you realize that they have been trying to catch this guy for a year and a half?

That wacky Norm Coleman

The Minnesota Senate recount is in full swing, with Al Franken just a few votes behind perk-lover Norm Coleman. Norm is pulling an interesting stunt- he’s challenging every ballot that has both a vote for McCain and Franken. His line of reasoning is that no one who voted for McCain could possibly have voted for [...]

I’ve been listening to Bob Dylan’s 2006 CD, Modern Times

Bob is a real hardliner about religion, and his view of women is sometimes hard to take. But when it comes to his music I just try to set that aside, because his work is so amazing. I have to do the same thing with Van Morrison sometimes.

Here is one of my favorite songs from [...]

It is the birthday of Bjork.

It’s another beautiful day.
I celebrated by looking at a picture of Prince Willy’s willy. Ah, the beauty and terror of the Internets. I’d link to it but I’m trying to preserve some sense of decency here. (cough DListed cough)

A nice ring from Sue McNenly

Sue attended my Ring Workshop at Wired Designs in San Antonio, and really took the concepts to heart. Here is a beautiful embedded-shank, faux bezel ring she made using the techniques we covered in class. Isn’t it fabulous? Just look at that beautiful band, even, thick, soft, deliciously textured.
All of her work is gorgeous but [...]
