I have a hard time seeing owls in the wild.

In fact, I’m sorry to say that I have never seen one. I can’t imagine how this can be the case, but there it is. It’s part of my fascination with owls, how they avoid me. Here is an elf owl that came to the Firefly back yard in Tucson, in the summer of ’05. Usually when I see them photographed, they are peeking out of holes in saguaro cacti. These little fuzzy legs slay me. The whole owl could curl up in the palm of your hand, as they top out around 6 inches tall.
