Privatize profits, socialize losses…

The terrible news from Wall Street couldn’t have come at a better time. And I say that with a heavy heart. The Bush administration has been a pusher for the Republican ideal of privatizing profits, and socializing loss. We, the people, are now expected to foot the bill for the bailout of the banks and investment firms who gambled irresponsibly and took what they could get while Bush was at the helm.

What in the hell does John McCain think would be the position of our senior citizens today if he and Bush had succeeded in their goal of privatizing Social Security? That money would be down the same drain as everyone’s retirement accounts, IRAs, and 401ks. There simply isn’t enough money to bail out everyone, especially with the wealthy investors and bankers first in line for assistance.

Many retired senior citizens are going to see their income completely crash. There will be no bailout for them. And it’s damned lucky that they will have their Social Security.  Those who are about to retire may find that they are unable to do so.

Will the older generation of Americans vote against their interests this time? Will they vote for John McCain, who still says today that our economy is sound, and that Social Security should be privatized?  McCain is so wealthy and out of touch that he genuinely has no grasp on what is about to happen to a huge chunk of our population.

Sarah Palin is totally focused on God’s Plan For Sarah Palin, and is unqualified to manage our economy.  Her first order of business as mayor of the small town of Wasilla was to spend $50,000 of their money redecorating her office, and she left them deeply in debt, although when she took the helm they were solvent. Sound familiar?

Republicans have made a career out of turning solvency into ruin, surplus into debt, peace into war, and placing personal gain over public service. I’m mad as hell about what they have done. And I can’t believe the same people who wanted government so small they could “drown it in a bathtub” now expect government to cover their losses.

Do you think that the utter collapse of Wall Street, and the fact that McCain wanted to send the Social Security fund down the same drainpipe, will motivate states loaded with retirees to vote Dem?

Florida, Arizona…? Hello?
